AMAS's First Hackathon Was a True Success!

The final day of the event was dedicated to finishing the projects, with teams working on optimizing their Machine Learning (ML) models. The goal was to apply ML models to image processing in search of compact, efficient, and computationally low-cost solutions. The teams prepared presentations to share their solutions in front of a panel of judges and the other participants. The judges faced the difficult task of selecting the 1st and 2nd place winners, as well as recognizing the Best Group Leader. The criteria evaluated included the technical quality of the solutions, visual clarity in the presentations, team spirit, and the leadership skills demonstrated. This was followed by the traditional group photo, with Alberto Bié representing the Director General of ISUTC - Instituto Superior de Transportes e Comunicações, along with the awarding of certificates, the announcement of the jury's decisions and, of course, the winners' prize ceremony. We thank the African Astronomical Society (AFAS), DARA Big Data, and Hack4dev for their financial support and guidance throughout the process. Your contribution was essential to making this event a reality. We feel honored to have been chosen to organize this initiative, which is so relevant to the development and appreciation of local talent.
